I made the switch to veganism 3.5 years ago. When I decided I was eliminating all animal products from my life, it was like I flicked a switch.

I have no idea why, but once I made the decision, I went from consuming animal products at almost every meal, to absolutely none.

It’s something I feel very proud of, but equally, I would feel just as proud, possibly even more so, if I had found it more difficult, and still managed to persevere.

We all hear from people that consume animal products that it’s just too hard to switch, and I’m wondering how you all found the switchover.

Was it instant for you, or did it take some time to transition?

That’s amazing 👏

Strangely, I had never encountered a street activism event before becoming vegan. If I had, there’s no way I wouldn’t have made the switch there and then.

why's that?

I've been a vegan for 3 years 4 months but it's genesis started when I was born lactose intolerant. I couldn't enjoy dairy without stomach pains & other things I'm too embarrassed to mention.
My godson a 6 year vegan & my "mentor" urged me to go vegan for the animals ,the planet & my health. He had me watched 2 hours worth of PETA videos which not only made my stomach sour but guilt was hitting me hard.

How could i be blinded & brainwashed by the dairy, eggs & meat industry?? I've felt better since going vegan thanks to my godson's influence & guidance

I have been a vegetarian since I was 4 or 5 years old, I recently (about four months)became a vegan because I discovered the truth about the dairy industry and stopped consuming it and decided to spread the message of veganism.

10 years ago, I used to train and compete Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I was trying a lot of diets and when I started yoga at the moment I decided to try being vegetarian, I felt good and watch a couple of documentaries and decided to drop meat (and alcohol), didn't even think about being vegan because I felt it was too extreme and no idea what I was going to eat. I'm originally from Argentina, on of the countries with more meat consumption per capita, I didn't know anyone vegetarian, less alone vegan.

After 5 years from that (5 years ago), I started running and was going to run my first marathon and decided to drop dairy, then I read Veganuary book, Eat & Run from Scott Jurek and Finding Ultra from Rich Roll and decided to try vegan. Once I made the connection there was no way back.

Becoming both vegetarian and then vegan, for me, started on health/sports performance, but I definitely now do it 100% for the animals.

I made the decision after watching a video of a cow for hala.
It was the worst ever and made me cry so I couldn't eat meat anymore.
I find it hard to make meals but its horrible to walk in a supermarket and see meat.
I had chicken at kfc but then, I thought its not good to select what animals I can eat or not.
Now I do not eat any animals or buy things that are not vegan.

It sounds like you had a clear sense of purpose, and that made the switch feel natural for you.

I went vegan instantly also after seeing some street activism. The cruelty I witnessed was so shocking that I couldn’t not be vegan. I couldn’t continue supporting something that felt so wrong. The decision was instant for me, and there was no going back.

You’re so right. If you think of the animals, you can’t go anywhere but forward.

For me, I had felt some guilt over the years, and always did my best to put it to the back of my mind. I had begun not enjoying eating meat, and then, one day, I had a meal, and enjoyed it. I found that feeling even worse to handle. I felt like a bad person.

I instantly said, “That’s the last meal I have with animal parts in it.”, and I became vegan.

How about you? Was it a particular event that led you to become vegan?

Switching to veganism was a great change for me too, though my journey was more gradual.

It’s great that you were able to flip that switch so easy everyone’s path is different, but the commitment and staying true to your values are what really count.

Whether it’s instant or a slow transition, what matters is the intention and sticking with it.

The more you think about the animals the easier it becomes.
