I volunteer to save animals from mowers in the Netherlands. Deer fawns are particularly vulnerable because their instinct is to stay in place and rely on camouflage to avoid predators. This does not help with mowing. I join groups of volunteers who use thermal drones to locate and move or protect them. At the same time we locate eggs and identify their locations to mowers so they are avoided.
More farmers need to know they can reduce mowing victims. Hopefully information about how we work will allow us to save more during mowing season, which happens between April and July in the Northern hemisphere. I hope to be able to post more information here.
