I have fed birds and hedgehogs in my garden for about ten years. However, I have recently seen rats in my garden and noticed tunnels under the flower beds and droppings in the coal shed and storage boxes. It seems there may be an infestation. After researching, I found that if I remove food and water sources and apply peppermint spray, the rats should move away. I feel terrible for not paying attention earlier. Now, I am worried that if my neighbours start to complain, the local authorities may get involved and send pest control. If that happens, I would feel awful.
If I used ultrasonic and herbal deterrents, how long would it take them to move away?
And what if the infestation is severe?
If I do have to get pest control involved, my 30 years of practising non-violence would be in vain. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you
